A Message from the BSD regarding the Budget

Dear RTMSD Community,

We are pleased to share that the Rose Tree Media School District Board of School Directors approved the 2024-25 district budget at its legislative meeting last Thursday.

The approved General Fund Budget includes $121,782,732 in expenses and anticipated revenue of $120,736,507, necessitating a projected use of $1,046,225 from the fund balance. This budget also incorporates a 3.5% tax increase. As detailed in this fact sheet, this increase is below the 5.3% index set by Act 1, the state-mandated limit on increases in revenues from property taxes.

Like many Pennsylvania districts, RTMSD faces high operational costs and funding limitations. Only 0.38% of our overall revenue comes from the federal government while 82.6% is generated locally, primarily through annual real estate taxes.

This budget addresses the rising costs associated with federal and state mandates, including special education, retirement contributions, and charter school tuition. It also responds to the challenges posed by a growing student population as well as limited state and federal revenues, which increases our reliance on local property taxes.

Our administrative team and Board remain dedicated to upholding our commitment to educational excellence while being mindful of the financial impact on our community.

As we head into the summer break, we wish you all a safe, joyful, and rejuvenating time with your loved ones. May this summer bring you relaxation and memorable moments.

Thank you for being an integral part of our school community. We look forward to welcoming you back in the fall, refreshed and ready for another great year!

In Partnership,
The Rose Tree Media School District Board of School Directors and Dr. Joseph Meloche, Superintendent
