Positive Supports for SLMS Students
-
The middle years represent a unique time in the development of our students, one that is marked by a great deal of change – physically, socially, emotionally, and academically. Our program is designed to provide students with a challenging, diverse, and exploratory program of instruction. We offer a wide array of extra and co-curricular activities in which students can develop their talents and interests.

Advisory
Advisory is an important element of nurturing the social and emotional needs of our students. Advisory will help to ensure that every student has at least one deep connection with an adult staff member. In addition, advisory will serve as a way for our students to develop connections and relationships with one another. Students will be assigned to an advisory group of 13-15 students under the direction of one of our teachers. The groups will be cross-grade and students will remain with their group throughout their years at Springton Lake. Advisory will meet during the school day one time per cycle for 30 minutes. Students will participate in team-building activities, service projects, and discuss topics of importance to middle-schoolers.

Spartan Bucks
As part of our school-wide positive behavior support program, students may be awarded Spartan Bucks in recognition of behavior that is aligned with our 4R’s – Ready, Respectful, Responsible, & Resilient. Periodically, students will have an opportunity to redeem Spartan Bucks for rewards or special privileges.
Each student’s Spartan Bucks will be managed electronically using a program called LiveSchool. Students will receive a log-in for LiveSchool to track their balances at any time. Spartan Bucks are non-transferable among students and all account balances will be re-set at the end of each school year.
